Chilean dolphins & salmon farms

Three days with Nomads of the Sea in the southern fjords of Chile leaves me with images of Magellanic penguins, roaring southern sea lions, glaciers, windswept impenetrable forests, and the meanderings of the lithe Peale’s dolphins and delicate Chilean dolphins. We encountered them many times, without really trying; they were so close to shore, playing and feeding in the shallows. Our idyllic adventure was only broken by the specter of so many salmon fish farms which are destroying one of the last great coastal wildernesses on Earth. It’s not too late, but it soon will be.

Recently, I was interviewed on the topic of marine protected areas (MPAs) and whales and dolphins with special reference to the situation in Chile. It will soon be published by “El Mostrador” in Chile. For now, you can read the interview in English or Spanish at www.cetaceanhabitat.org.
