vDear Friends,
The One Human Family Gospel Choirs, a program of OHF Music Workshops, Inc., is an ongoing experience that allows members to systematically develop bonds of friendship across racial, religious, cultural, age, gender, and socioeconomic lines.  Music serving as the initial bond, the gospel choirs continue to build pockets of world peace through regular meetings, rehearsals, and performances in their local areas.

Since the summer of 2005, conductor, composer and Artistic Director of the One Human Family Choirs, Eric Dozier, has been working closely with artists and communities of Vancouver and Vancouver Island, establishing chapters of OHF in Canada. The Victoria, Cowichan Valley and Vancouver Choirs have participated in many community events such as fundraising concerts for the Nanaimo Hospice Society, The Victoria MS Society, the Stephen Lewis Foundation, Cowichan Family Caregivers Support Society as well as various United Nation’s Organizations to name a few, raising over $10, 000 in a little over a year.

At the same time, Co-Founders Dilsey Davis and Cara Williams along with the US membership have worked tirelessly to maintain and develop activities on the US front.

The members and the administration of OHF are now turning to individuals and organizations in Canada, the US, and the entire planet with an invitation to join us in an effort to support and sponsor OHF Gospel Choirs latest endeavor; a One Human Family Recording Weekend entitled The Pilgrimage Project.

On December 14-16, OHF will gather representatives from the US and Canadian chapters to form a mass choir of over 80 singers and musicians for a live recording of traditional spirituals, gospel and inspirational music featuring world renowned African American gospel soloists. The event will culminate in a gala concert on 16 December for the Vancouver Island public held at the Cowichan Theatre.

In order to accomplish this, we are taking the road less traveled. We would like to completely “crowd fund” this project through our community of friends, family, and people that have been touched by our work.

This is a revolutionary step, particularly as it relates to the traditional methods that are used to fund music projects. So towards this end, a “bounty” has been placed on The Pilgrimage Project at Bounty Up, the World’s First Social Marketplace. What is a “bounty” and who is Bounty Up you might ask? You can visit www.BountyUp.com to find out how it works and check out our bounty. You can support us by pledging a bounty as little as $1.

However, if you as an individual or an organization wish to go the more traditional path and make a tax-deductible donation toward the project or to sponsor OHF in other ways, feel free to contact us at ohfgospelchoir@gmail.com or call (250)-884-1363 in Canada or (919)-294-4913 in the US.

Below you will find the project description and objectives as well as an estimated budget, repertoire, schedules of the event and names of the guest artists participating.

Thank you in advance for supporting the One Human Family Gospel Choirs. With your help, we look forward continuing our work of “Uniting the World...One Song at a Time.”

gProject Objectives
To produce high-quality recording of African-American Spirituals arranged by the artistic director of One Human Family Gospel Choirs, composer Eric Dozier, whose arrangements and compositions continue to highlight the power of music and its role in sustaining families and communities. The proceeds of the recording will go towards enhancing the programing capacities of OHF in Canada and the US.

To develop the One Human Family Resource Website and Blog to support OHF choirs internationally by taking advantage of current internet trends and marketing strategies i.e., online parts tapes, OHF virtual internet music store, singing tutorials, online international networking between members of OHF and the communities. This forum will continue to serve as a support for beginning as well as experienced members of the Family.

To publish sheet music of OHF arrangements for the creation of a companion song book in order to enable conductors and musicians internationally to access OHF’s music, thereby contributing to the sustainability of the organization worldwide.

To achieve sustainability by using the proceeds from the project to support the development of more OHF chapters across the world.

Promoting the oneness of humanity by providing an opportunity for local BC artists and the community to co-create with American Gospel singers steeped in the tradition of African-American sacred music, culminating in a live tribute concert performance.

Since its inception OHF has been in the forefront of evoking social change around various issues. The completion of this project will assist OHF in continuing its work in promoting social justice, community healing, and racial reconciliation.Blog/Blog.htmlshapeimage_9_link_0

*note: These are made up of the volunteer hours spent developing publicity, project management, coordinating travel, offering housing to the traveling pilgrims, food donations, discounted venue rates, technical and performance fees.

pThe Music
African American Spirituals contain some of the most powerful American poetry, and speak of God’s love for all mankind. They reflect joys and sorrows, hopes and fears, personal struggles and dreams. They have carried hidden messages about resistance and escape and continue to this day to testify to the resilience of the human spirit. In the words of James Weldon Johnson, they speak the “group wisdom” and express the “group philosophy of life.”

The Pilgrimage Project will pay tribute to these folk hymns of Praise, Protest, and Purpose by weaving together a tapestry of historical documentation, photographs, archival film footage, and live performance. It will honor the rich tradition of this sacred music and its function in preserving history, educating generations, protesting injustice and healing the wounds of racism.

It is our hope that through this concert our audience will develop a new appreciation and understanding of Spirituals, their evolution into Gospel Music, and how they have helped create and sustain a dynamic vision, not only for African Americans, but for people of all races and nations.
