After a split 7” with Gunna Vahm on Reptilian  and a well-received self-released EP, this disc presents Fight Amputation’s most focused writing to date. Combining d-beat and His Hero Is Gone-styled hardcore with a unique three vocalist attack, their three songs show a band rapidly maturing into a force to be reckoned with. Exosus played their last show in May, 2005, and this disc presents their last two songs. A mainstay of the Baltimore/DC axis for 2 1/2 years, Exosus combined Swedish metal and crust with the throat-ripping vocals of one Allen Higgs.  Mastered by Alan Douches. 1000 copies pressed March 2006

“This should have been released as a 7”, because it is too good to be lost on CD format. New music on CD doesn’t get much attention. In any event, Exosus play brutal metal hardcore with blast beats and scream power. Hard hitting and savagely powerful. Fight Amputation use screaming vocals and speed. They are certainly influenced by His Hero Is Gone and similar styled hardcore. Their 3 tracks are solid hardcore. Both bands hit hard while offering up memorably ferocious songs. The goodness cannot be avoided. Well put together.”

“Interesting split that pairs Fight Amputation’s take on the Portland dirge sound and Exosus take on the loud, twisted and fucked up sound. Exosus have split up which is a shame because their tracks of sludgy, loud, and distorted punk rock are real growers- ‘Four Riders’ destroys it. While they have been compared to the Swedish style they have more going on I think. I’ve reviewed Fight Amputation before but these three songs sounds heavier than other stuff I’ve heard of them. A quality split worthy of your bucks.”

“Two super aggressive hardcore bands on this split. Fight Amputation throws some sludge metal into the mix, and Exosus gets progressive and flirts with thrash. Angry stuff that delivers the goods.”

“Next up is a brief split CD featuring just three and two songs respectively from Fight Amputation and Exosus, respectively. I was pretty stoked to see this initially as these two East Coast bands (Rhode Island (sic) and DC, respectively) had been among the few standout metalcore releases I’ve reviewed in the past year or two. Neither band was exactly breaking new ground, but both managed to distinguish themselves with interesting arrangements, good riffs and enough energy to carry it through. Maybe it’s just cuz the boom of lowered expectations is now gone, but the impact from each isn’t quite hitting me in the nards like before. A couple of “hmm, heard that before” notions creep into the brain, and I’m still not picking up on any killer weird-time breakdowns like before. Still decent stuff from both, but I’d recommend starting with their 7”s.”

“Alright… Fight Amputation is one of the best bands playing aggressive music today. Hands down. What started as an exercise in D-beat grew into a monolith of its own, taking notes from bands like Neurosis, Union of Uranus, and Deadguy. These Philly/Jersey punks are on to something, and I’m desperate for more of it. These three tracks might be their best efforts to date, and are worth the $8 alone, but paired with a beast like Exosus? Goodness!   I had the good fortune to have caught Exosus’s live show once about two years ago, and to this date their self-titled 7″ is one of the first EP’s I reach for when I want to put something on my turntable. They combine the furiosity of grindcore, crustpunk, death metal, and hardcore seamlessly, with a technicality that I can’t help but envy. Their two songs on this split are their final recordings, released posthumously, but should serve as an introduction for anyone who missed out on this great Baltimore band. Their guitarist (Rebecca) is playing with Fight Amp now though, so don’t worry… the beat goes on.”

“Fight Amputation is up next with some heavy and subtly dissonant  hardcore/punk. There's a good amount of speed and screaming vocals, with  an underlying His Hero is Gone influence. Exosus play sharp, brutal metalcore that rises above the endless chum of similar sounding bands with memorably ferocious riffing, brutal double-bass breakdowns, blast beats, and a few of those CONVERG-y extra measure odd-time riffs that  you can't get enough of.”

“Another quick split comes from Kordova Milk Bar Records, who recently released a CD from Fight Amputation (New Jersey) and Exosus (Maryland). Fight Amputation starts things off with three well recorded tracks that are a little fiercer than their last EP, pulsing along with a crunchy brand of hardcore/punk with plenty of twisted dissonant riffs and just the right amount of metal to pad things out without losing its true roots. These guys are still leaving me hungry for a full-length, too! I'm tired of only getting to experience the band two to four songs at a time! Upon first impressions I wasn't that into the Exosus tracks for some reason, probably because a few of the riffs have that melodic Swedish tinge, and I just don't want to hear that stuff sometimes, but with time I'm actually digging their two tunes as well. The scathing vocals are pissed as fuck and the writing has a good sense of rocked out flow, and I have to admit, the Swedish sounding riffs are really good for what they are. Plus, their closer, "Four Riders", is much darker and more punishing in terms of a driving metallic crust kind of vibe, and you can't complain about that!”

“5 songs between these two bands, both playing a cross between crusty and outright metallic noise. FA are cleaner in their delivery with 3 songs of metallic outbursts. Exosus go a dirtier route, sounding much sludgy (sic) with the pace kept slow and heavy for the most part.”
