Whats Your Book?

About the judges:

Ailsa McWhinnie - recently retired editor of Black & White Photography magazine and a passionate photographer, who, I suspect, must have a great book project of her own tucked up her sleeve! As the editor of what must surely be the best B&W magazine, Ailsa had (still has) her finger on the pulse and her understanding of the audience for photography publications ensured that we judges didn’t lose sight of the final objective – to make a book that people would want.

Helen Esmonde - of Hoopers Gallery, London, who has an expert eye on the art-side of photography. Helen is also a publisher of considerable experience, with clients like the World Wildlife Fund, whose extensive knowledge of print production and binding was invaluable as we discussed the various ways the finalists’ books could be produced. She’s also committed to the environmentally-friendly production of paper and books, running seminars on the subject.

Eddie Ephraums - publisher, Argentum’s commissioning editor, photographer and writer. Eddie’s experience of working on books such as Joe Cornish’s First Light, David Ward’s Landscape Within and most recently Working the Light gives him an understanding of what it takes to make a successful book. Through his company, Envisage Books, he publishes and works with photographers, helping them develop their project ideas, to get their art and its message to the widest possible audience.
