Description of Services:
Homeowners planning construction projects can join the Collaborative to access the program and directory
resources to help their builders dispose of waste from their site sustainable. The Collaborative can provide
contract language for insertion into a project specification to insure waste handling includes recycling. We
can also provide custom waste management plans to insure waste materials are diverted to the greatest extent
possible for a specific project.
Fees:
Homeowners can become a members for free. Go to the Application form. For fees for SWMC services go

Seminars:
The Collaborative offers homeowners opportunities to learn how to reduce their household waste stream and
make their lifestyle more sustainable through its public seminars The Collaborative offers seminars through
Green Decade in Newton, religious organization’s green committees and other grass roots organizations. If
your organization would like to host a seminar contact Jay Walter at the Collaborative.

The seminar focuses on how homeowners can reduce the waste stream from their
homes. We will discuss the 3 Rs- recycling, reuse and reduction strategies for trash. We
also discuss options to dispose of household goods, water conservation and waste water,
The seminar will provide homeowners with resources for alternatives to disposal as well as
describe what is available from the city.

at the Jackson Homestead, Newton Saturday March 7th, 2009. 10:00 AM

This seminar focuses on how builders can reduce the waste stream from the residential
construction sites as well as how to make their material handling more efficient. The goal is
to reduce the need for the 30 yard omnipresent dumpster and reduce the cost of disposal.
We discuss the recycling, reuse and reduction strategies for construction materials
as well as handling strategies to make the site more efficient. The seminar will provide
builders with resources for alternatives to disposal and methods to reduce the cost of
disposal.
These seminars are presented by Jay Walter AIA, a local architect and founder of the
Sustainable Waste Management Collaborative.
