Born in Hollywood in 1930, Carol grew up in a place and time punctuated with artists of many media. She received her formal training in painting at UC Berkeley in the years immediately following Hans Hofmann’s tenure there.  As an abstract expressionist, his influence on her work has been substantial. She also studied at UCLA and at La Esmeralda Art Academy in Mexico City, shortly after Frida Kahlo’s tenure there.
