Mex thoughts

Today I had to go downtown to get some business taken care of with Austin’s paperwork. We have it so easy in the states with important paperwork. Before you even leave the hospital after you have a baby, you are given his birth certificate! Here, let me tell you it’s a much different story. When I initially went to get his certificado de nacimiento, they told me it takes at least three months for the paperwork to get filed after the baby is born! We don’t have that kind of time to deal with this, so I talked to some people there and found how to expedite the situation. So I went down to pick up his birth certificate today.
Since I was already downtown, I decided to head down to the market and get some of Costa Rica’s famous coffee. I found this little hole in the wall coffee shop a while back that sells the best beans! I’ve made pretty good friends with the guy that works there, Beto. Last time I went, a few weeks ago, I handed Beto a tract. This time I followed up with it and asked him what he thought and if he was heading to heaven. In my broken Spanish I understood a bit of what he said, and it sounded a lot like Catholicism to me. The key words I gathered were “yes I believe in Jesus, and now that I believe in Him, I must live a perfect life in order to get into heaven.” He asked me what I believed, and I told him, “I believe in Jesus too. I believe He died for my sins, and that because of that and my acceptance of His payment, I’ll be heading to heaven.” I couldn’t counter act his words because I just didn’t have the vocabulary for it, but I told Beto, we’ll talk more when I have some more Spanish.
So in the mean time, Pray for Beto. Pray for me that I will gather the words to be able to show Him Christ’s perfect love, and help him to understand that it’s not what we have done or do, but it’s all about Christ that allows us to be able to head to heaven.
