Mex Thoughts

Wow, to say that God is proving our faith may now be an understatement! Things have been looking up for a while now. Austin has been doing very well health wise. We had his two month check up yesterday and the doctor said that he has gained nearly five pounds, and four inches. He’s a short, fat little boy. We’re so glad to see him doing better. He is combatting a lot more with his acid reflux though. It’s been waking him up at night and really causing him some pain, so the Dr helped us out with that as well.
Anyway back to the faith part. About a month ago our doctor spoke with us about the importance of Austin getting a shot for the RSV virus. I don’t know much about it, but it’s a respiratory thing and only certain babies are susceptible, like ones who are premature, have had a breathing tube after birth, and who have had a brain bleed of any capacity. All three of which Austin has had, so he is extreme high risk for getting this virus. If he does get the virus it is something he will deal with for the rest of his life, With potential for asthma and many other serious health risks.
Several people at the Doctors office have been working on getting this shot taken care of for us over the last month. It’s so rare, that they don’t carry it in the pharmacy, it must be special ordered, and when you have something like that the $$$ start adding up. Initially the told me the cost would be about $1200, so they were going to begin working with our insurance company to get everything in order.
Yesterday we went to the hospital to have the shot, the first in a five shot series. I went to pay for the shot prior to Austin’s receiving it and they said that I needed to pay $2000! My mouth dropped, and I was stunned as I was only expecting to have to pay about $250, our portion of the insurance. My wonderful friend, who speaks English Praise the Lord, from the insurance office came and explained the details to me. The deal is that our insurance is paying their part, but that each shot costs $1600 and the total bill is $8000! Yes I said EIGHT THOUSAND DOLLARS!
I just about immediately wanted to puke! That was way more than we were expecting, and I just don’t know how it’s all going to work out. So many times we put the cover up that “God is in control and He get us through this”, which we know is true, but lets be real here, that’s a scary number for anyone!
Just as we think that we have finally gotten our heads above water, and maybe the rescue ship is on its way, we are overtaken by another huge wave.
Psalms 37:25 is my stay right now. I’ve been young and now am old yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread! God help us to get through this.

The Sinking Ship
