Or is it a fake?&#13;Ancient coins were one of the first artifacts to be analyzed using instrumental techniques that arose in the 1950s and 1960s.  One of these early researchers was C. M. Kraay, who used neutron activation analysis to measure silver and gold in Greek coins in the hope that differences would be detected between different mints.
