MQRES Geoarchaeology PhD Scholarship

MQRES Geoarchaeology/Cultural Heritage Management PhD Scholarship
A postgraduate research scholarship, commencing in 2007, is available in the Graduate School of the Environment at Macquarie University, as part of the Western NSW Archaeology Program.  This interdisciplinary project will contribute to an integrated methodology based on archaeology, Quaternary geochronology and geomorphology that emphasizes the landscape setting as a      means for evaluating the surface archaeological record in Australia and what it means in terms of Indigenous Australian place use history.  The outcomes will include a more landscape-focussed framework for Cultural Heritage Management.

MQRES scholarships are available to Australian and international students.  Applicants should have completed an Australian four-year undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline with first class honours, or demonstrate equivalent research training from an Australian or overseas University, such as a Masters with substantial thesis component.  A background in one or more of archaeology, geomorphology/geoscience or environmental science would be expected, but applications from suitably qualified candidates in other relevant disciplines are welcome.

The scholarship pays a living allowance currently $A19,616 per annum, tax exempt (2007) and the tenure is 3.5 years full time, subject to satisfactory progress. Tuition fees will be funded for the scholarship tenure.  Additional support for the research and travel will be provided.
