Cambridge and UKIERI Geoarchaeology PhD Studentship
 
UK-India Education and Research Initiative Studentship in Archaeology
The Department of Archaeology at the University of Cambridge has been awarded a Standard Award from the UK India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) to support project related field research, laboratory research and academic exchange in the fields of archaeology and geosciences in collaboration with Banaras Hindu University and a number of other universities and research institutes in India and the UK.
The project is entitled “From the collapse of Harappan urbanism to the rise the great Early Historic cities: investigating the cultural and geographical transformation of northwest India between 2000 and 300 BC”.
This project is offering a studentship for one eligible candidate to carry out project related PhD studies in Geoarchaeology at the Department of Archaeology, University of Cambridge. The Department of Archaeology is therefore seeking applicants for this PhD studentship to begin their studies in October 2008.
This studentship is jointly funded by the UK-India Education and Research Initiative and the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust.
The successful candidate will be awarded funding to support three years of study and research leading to the degree of PhD in the Department of Archaeology, University of Cambridge.  
Eligibility:
The candidate must be an Indian national.
Applicants should already hold (or expect to hold by the time of taking up the award) a BA or MA equivalent qualifications in archaeology, geoarchaeology, geology, earth sciences or sedimentology that are comparable to a first-class or a high upper second from a UK university.
Value of Studentship:
The studentship will normally cover up to:
- The University Composition Fee at the appropriate rate.
- Approved College fees.
- A Maintenance allowance sufficient for a single student.
