Elka Knits

So I haven’t exactly disappeared off the face of the earth.  Just a mini  break while I fiddle with my knitting.  I have cast on both of these socks more times than I care to think about.  The Jays are too narrow and the Fancy Checkerboards are a wee bit too wide.  Still I am tired of changing needle sizes on them so have decided to finish the Jays to give to my DD for Christmas.    Because they are intended as a gift I am at loss on how long to make the foot.  I mean if I measured her foot she would know to expect socks and where is the fun in that?  Does anybody wear a women’s size 6 shoe?  If  you do please let me know how long  your foot is.   The Checkerboards are exactly 9” around which just happens to be my actual foot circumference.   I am knitting them at a looser gauge despite going down needle size several times.  The row gauge is way too tight already so it is just me knitting wonkily.  I like them....

Anyway I am counting each as  half a sock for my 2 pairs aka 4 sock goal for Socktober because the Jays were just past the gusset and the others were at the ankle bone.  When I finish them I will be one sock down.  Here is a picture of them stacked so you can see the width differential:
