STATEMENT:

Perhaps the best statement to be made is done through my art. I don’t get art-babble so I try not to make any. See the Education section below.

BIOGRAPHY:

Born 1950 in Pittsburgh, PA, USA, spent my youth moving around the East Coast. Left Annapolis, Md after six years there and moved to Portland, OR in 1980. Left Oregon after eight years and have lived and worked in Southern California until present. My work has been shown and collected extensively.

Happily married over thirty years to Elin Holmberg who is the backbone of my art career.

EDUCATION:

Mostly self, and life, taught. My education is experiential in nature and very multi-faceted. Never, for a moment, as far back as I can remember, did I doubt that art was my life.

I did some community college in the 70’s and went on to study with guidance from learned artists. Spent considerable time and effort studying cultural and spiritually based art. This included an active study and work period in situ with the late Dudley Carter, famous for totemic and monumental scale wood sculpture in the Haida and Kwaikutl style. Went through a period of sculpting abstract form in a variety of hardwood species and also carved masks which were shown and sold internationally.

My memory is rich with the experiences of learning and yet I still, at times, would like to have focused more specifically in fewer mediums. No regrets overall.
