Beth Yeshua Quick Build
October 14-16, 2008
God has touched the lives of many people through Beth Yeshua Messianic Synagogue since its inception five years ago. A Messianic Synagogue connects the Tenach (Old Testament) and New Testament through Yeshua the Messiah, while restoring the richness and significance of their Hebraic roots. While many Messianic synagogues are located in larger cities, Beth Yeshua has thrived and the community has benefited from its location in Macon, Georgia. It is now time for Beth Yeshua to “construct a tabernacle” for the presence of the Lord. After two years of prayer and careful consideration, it has been determined that “The Macon Messianic Center -- Home of Congregation Beth Yeshua” will be developed utilizing the “Quick-Build” concept.
What is a Quick-Build Project?
The traditional way to build a congregational building is to hire a general contractor, put out bids for subcontractors, and then usually deal with the frustration of the project taking longer than expected and costing much more than budgeted.
There is a better and more exciting way! During the early years of our country’s history, churches, schools, and many other buildings were typically constructed with volunteer labor from the entire community. This simple concept is being rediscovered today. God has led Beth Yeshua Messianic Congregation to explore this option. After researching a similar project at a nearby congregation in Locust Grove, Georgia, we have decided to pursue a Quick-Build for our new Messianic Synagogue in Macon. Volunteers came from all over the globe to assist in the Quick-Build in Locust Grove, and we are anticipating the same at Beth Yeshua.
Can it really be built in just three days?
The truth is that you can’t totally construct a congregational building in three days. You can, however, take the building from “shell” to 95% completion in three days. After all the planning and preparation has been done, the Quick-Build phase will begin. When you arrive, you’ll find the pad already poured and cured, the steel structure in place, and the roof complete. Plumbing will already be “roughed in” and electrical conduit installed in the pad. From this point, we’ll work 12 hours a day to bring the building to 95% completion. In the three days, we’ll do framing, sheet rock, electrical, sound and video, painting, carpet, landscaping, and anything else that needs to be done.
Will you need just “professional” tradesmen?
No, we realize that many people who work as “butchers, bakers, and candlestick makers” are also very good at carpentry, painting, electrical, and landscaping. You may not be licensed -- but you may be experienced. We will have licensed professionals supervising every trade during the entire project. You will also be allowed to work at your own individual skill and comfort level.
I’m not skilled at a construction trade but I still want to help.
There are numerous things you can do. We will need people to help prepare the meals for the volunteers. We will need nurses and people trained in first-aid to staff the emergency tent. We will need drivers to get volunteers to and from the airport and to the work site. We will need children’s workers to look after the children of volunteers. In short, if you want to help, we’ll find a place of service for you.
Where will out-of-towners stay during the construction project?
You will be hosted by families of Beth Yeshua and other local families that are supporting our project. Our Congregational Mishpochah (Hebrew for family) will look after your every need during your stay with us.
How soon do you need to know if I can help or not?
The sooner the better. We’re in a race against the clock to insure enough volunteers to make the project successful -- that means we are looking for hundreds. Please seek the Lord to see if He would have you participate in this exciting project with us. If so, contact us as soon as possible, as much preparation needs to be done. Either way, we would ask you to pray daily for us. Todah Raba! (Thank you very much!)
