Schönbrunn Tiergarten

School is almost over, only parent teacher and party day to come on Monday. We are shifting gears to checking off a last few must-do items from our to-do list and thinking about the logistics of packing and our return. As Alex states in his blog, Mary is still wrapping up a paper, so today we decided to get out of her hair. If she finishes the paper, then she can spend a week “on vacation” with us next week. Our destination today was the zoo at Schönbrunn, celebrating its 255th year this coming week. Nathaniel more or less ran the show, surveying the map and telling us what we’d see next. The Koalas and Kattas were very cute, the bees a bit scary, the ants very industrious, the wolf a bit sad. We spend a long day wandering and observing (those elephants have really big bladders!) stopping for snacks along the way (knoblauch langos are better for wintertime, we decided). Some Eskimo eis rounded out a great day. The only blemish is that I lost the had I’d bought in Hallstat (after losing my REI hat). I’m a hat black hole, I guess!   ...Eric
