This week Joanne joined us in Vienna. She arrived on the same day that Putin arrived from Russia, making the airport a bit of a crazy place for a rendezvous with Mary. But they found each other and made their way to Huschkagasse on the City Airport Train and U-Bahn. We celebrated her arrival with Puten Schnitzel. We spent much of the week going on walks, visiting Bad Oberlaa, and exploring the musical side of Vienna. Joanne was particularly taken by Oma’s piano, playing wonderfully even though most of the piano is a “full step down” out of tune. She hunted around for the maker’s mark and intends to do some research into its history.
The five of us are planning a trip to Salzburg (Monday-Wednesday) and Hallstatt (Wednesday-Saturday) this coming week. Given that we are still coughing (Mary and now Nathaniel too), itchy (Eric), and anxious (Alex), this is a bit of a risk. We hope we will enjoy the trip and even wonder whether it may shed light on the cause of Mary’s cough (if her cough stops, it may be associated with Oma’s house). Wish us luck! ...Eric
