It has been an incredibly warm winter in Vienna this year. The warmest February ever in Austria they said in the news yesterday. It has felt like spring since we arrived. Flowers are poking out of the ground, trees are blossoming. And then this morning reminded us that it really is still winter. We woke to a few inches of snow, all the branches beautifully painted with white (nothing at all like the feet of snow falling in the midwest these past few days). Most all of this melted before sunset, we hope it didn’t hurt the flowers. But even if this snowfall didn’t kill the flowers, they will need a lot of luck to get through to real springtime. It is likely that sometime between now and then things will get very cold.
