TXUDC President’s Visit to New Mexico
TXUDC President, Ms. Vickie Knuth, visits NM Civil War Sites
During June 10-12, 2007, Ms. Vickie Knuth and associates, Ms. Peggy Tombs & Ms. Norma McGuire visited several Civil War sites in New Mexico including Fort Craig-Valverde battlefield, the Glorieta battlefield, Santa Fe National Cemetery, and very importantly two TXUDC memorials one located at San Marcial (Battle of Valverde; 2/21/1862) & one located on the Glorieta battlefield (Battles Apache Canyon & Glorieta; 3/26-28/1862).
The NM Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (NMSCV), with valuable assistance provided by Mike Bilbo of the Soccoro office of the US Bureau of Land Management, Kathy Billings superintendent of the Pecos National Historical Park, & Dr. Don E. Alberts, coordinated the visit. Dr. Alberts is an expert and author of several books regarding the Civil War in the New Mexico Territory.
