I drove with my friend Luis Morales (another freshman photographer) to Point Arena, with the intention of photographing bowling ball beach. We spent a night in Point Arena. Bowling Ball Beach(BBB) is an interesting location, and you will need to visit during low tide, but as we found out it seems better when it's NOT that low (-1.3 tide), as I believe a little bit of water around the rocks will make for more interesting subjects. The sunset at BBB was not as good as we were expecting, and results are not exactly the best for the effort we made. We then decided to capture the full moon setting by the Point Arena lighthouse the next morning, the idea was that given the times of moonset and sunrise, we will have the opportunity to make a shot of the lighthouse without the need of double exposure. Now, the surprise was that after the moon finally set, and just before the sun lights started to be too strong we were rewarded with probably the most colorful sunrise I've seen in a long time, and kind of unexpected for the west coast. We hiked around Stornetta Brothers Ranch (close to the lighthouse), as we noticed very interesting rock formations, plateaus, and sea stacks the day before during our scouting of the area. On our way back to San Francisco bay area, we made a quick stop at Salt Point State Park.
I hope you enjoy the pictures, it was really a treat to be there.
