The Ranger Service runs a really comprehensive package of walks for people interested in all aspects of the park, countryside, history, archaeology, wildlife, fungi, trains, history, navigation etc, etc, etc.  The walks are usually good fun and a great opportunity to meet people with similar interests.

You can find out about all the walks at the Peak District Ranger Guided Walks page on the PDNPA website

Exploring the Upper Dove Access Land

3 June 2007

The walk explores 6 gorgeous parcels of access land in the Upper Dove Valley, including the famous ‘Dragon’s Back’ of Parkhouse and Chrome hills.  Soak up some great vistas and find out more about access land.  Some steep ridge walks and walking across access land, fairly strenuous in places.

11am start time from the middle of Earl Sterndale village

The route walked is shown in the Upper Dove photo gallery

Battlefield & Bloodshed

21 October 2007

This walk encompasses the sites of two important local events in the English Civil War – a battlefield and the site of the mortal wounding of a prominent Royalist supporter, a Roman road, ancient barrows and the crash site of a WW2 bomber.  9.5 miles mostly on tracks & trails, some climbs, but not particularly difficult.  The walk is suitable for any reasonably fit walker.

10am start from Hartington Signal Box (Hartington Station on the link)
