A Mini Biography
David Urquhart-Jones has conducted a full performance of Messiah in an old aircraft hangar in Madang, Papua New Guinea; played double bass in historic live revivals of Handel’s operas in England; performed in cabaret at the renowned School of the Arts Cafe, Queanbeyan; played jazz piano on a river boat; conducted orchestral concerts in the United States and performed internationally as an accompanist and chamber ensemble player. An experienced teacher and a leader in the musical life of his community, he taught piano, harmony and counterpoint, and music history at university level; was the first Artistic Director of the Canberra Youth Orchestra Society and led his local ANZAC marches with kilt and bagpipes. David is now distilling the experiences of a lifetime in compositions which reflect his many faceted musical career.
Many of his pieces are in the ANZCA syllabus and selections from his ensemble pieces are listed for the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE). (Please see following pages for more information including audio clips)
