About 2 1/2 weeks ago, it rained on a Sunday. And then it rained on Monday. And Tuesday. And Wednesday... It rained for 13 days straight. Not all day every day, but it rained for some portion of 13 consecutive days. Then it stopped for a couple of days. Then yesterday and today it rained again. If you live in Ohio, or Portland, or England, that may not seem like a big deal. But I have lived in Colorado for 7 years and that has never happened. It just doesn’t rain that consistently here.
So, needless to say, we’re thankful for the rain. But also, yesterday, Sheryl, Elena and I took about 20 students hiking in Queen’s Canyon at Glen Eyrie. I have been hiking there several times, but I have never seen so much water in the creek at the bottom of the canyon. Once I gave up trying to keep my boots dry, I had a blast hiking in the water. At the top of the hike, there are several hollowed out places in the rock where the water pools. They’re called the punch bowls, and when we got there, we all jumped in. The water was cold, but it was amazing--the most fun I’ve had hiking in quite some time. (The pic attached to this post is 3 of the students playing in the waterfall pool just downstream from the punch bowls.)
Then, last night, Mom Keffer made a fabulous Japanese dinner and we invited one of my students, Satomi, who is Japanese. It was so neat to see Satomi just beaming as she tasted food from her native land and found friends who are speakers of her native language.
A very good day.
