Narcolepsy Association (UK)

Registered charity number 326361

About the charity

Its aims are to promote awareness of narcolepsy and its associated conditions, and to provide authoritative information about them. It provides practical advice and assistance to sufferers, families and their carers. It also supports research into its causes

I have suffered from Narcolepsy since the age of seven and was finally diagnosed in 1992 age 12 years old.

Narcolepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness.

The other symptoms are cataplexy, sleep paralysis, automatism, hypnogogic and hypnopompic hallucinations Rapid entry into REM sleep and distrupted nocturnal sleep.

(I have all of the above although the severity of each symptom has varied and changed throughout my life)

There is no cure for the disorder. Drug treatments produce significant improvement of the symptoms rather than a resolution of all the symptoms and with drugs there are always side effects.
