Thoughts on Fishing
Wednesday, October 29, 2008
Last year, I did not get to do a lot of fishing. I was too busy learning the waters around our home. Since I was a new boater, I think I made the right decision to focus on understanding the complicated water that covers a big part of this end of Carteret County.
This fall has been different. I am much more comfortable in our boat, and a slow down in the real estate business has given me lots of time to chase fish.
While we still have not nailed that big Red Drum that I want or any large trout, it is still early in the season. I now have a pretty good idea of where to fish. I even went to a trout seminar given by Dr. Bogus.
I am confident that we will finish out fall with a strong fishing season. The weather next week is predicted to be great with highs around seventy-five and lows in the mid-fifties. I am thinking next week might be our best week yet here on the Southern Outer Banks.
As soon as we have some good results I will make sure that write them up. Right now we are enjoying catching a variety of fish including Croakers, Spots, Flounder, Grey Trout, Spanish Mackerel, Rock Sea Bass, Pompano, Bluefish and Sheepshead.
I am certainly not complaining. The variety of fish is a lot of fun.
We spend lots of time walking the beach and observing the people on the beach. It is interesting the watch the seasonal change. We have gone from the families of summer to the empty nesters of September to the fishermen of October and November
