It was after we danced the Lords Prayer Dance at the local Church, on my first trip in 2006, that Rose and I became inexplicably connected.  I didn’t know that a connection was made until long after it was formed!  I was scared and in denial that I would be the one to want to bring a young girl home!  After the dance on our first Sunday, I extended my hand to Rose, and swirled her around, she smiled and so did I. Each time I saw her, I did the same thing and before I knew it we were connected. . . Friends,  Family!

Don, is my amazing and supportive husband.  Without his support it would have been very difficult to travel to Kenya in 2006.  Don supports me with my teaching and tries hard to understand the extra hours I put in.  I have been so blessed to be able to share this part of the world and the people I love in Kenya with both him and Carolyn. Raising the funds and travelling to help build the dormitory has been more amazing than I can put into words.  I am thankful for the support friends and family have shown me, us with this crazy idea!  It is actually nearing completion and I don’t think it has sunk in what we have been a part of !

We’re nearly there!  Join me, help build Rose Cottage, one bunk bed at a time!  Please write your comments and send me emails!  Check back often as this is a great place to reflect as this project unfolds, takes shape and become a reality!

Rose - My Friend, My Kenyan Girl

I'm about 48 now 36 (as of March 27) “bunks” away from my total goal of 200.  I'm still working on the bunk sales but also a campaign to get a photo and certificate when you give a gift.  Sort of like giving a goat!   I haven't  explained it well at all but I had some interest around Christmas.  I recently had a boost by two very generous donations of $1000.00.  I just need 4 1/2 more people to do the same!   Sounds so easy.
I have heard from Edna, the principal, and work continues on the dormitory. It isn't easy over in Kenya right now but I know in my heart that  all the work will get done and the dorm will have girls sleeping and showering in it soon.  Plastering is done and now they are moving on to floors,  outside walls and electricity.  I dream about some day visiting the school and dormitory. In the most recent photos the railing was installed. I can almost see the group photos on those stairs! The girls should be able to move into the first floor in March or Early April. I’ll be posting those images as soon as they arrive.
Rose started university in Nakuru on the 6th of Jan!  She has been in touch by email and even phoned late one night. She is enjoying her classes but, does have struggles. The website of her university makes the place look huge for our little Rose!  I hope she makes it.  Don, Carolyn and I are planning to attend her university Graduation!  We should all go!  What a grand thought.
