This month I have embarked on a new project with fellow drummer Craig Zarkos. We have created an organization for drummers with the goal of providing a stronger sense of community, and a large audience for clinics and performances. The response has been fantastic!
We start things off in Oct , presenting a clinic with Kevin O’Day from New Orleans. With his help, we will be exploring the rich and varied rhythmic tradition from that area.. He’s a great player and we are looking forward to it. We are planning a lot of other events in the near future so stay tuned! If you are a drummer or percussionist and are interested in joining, shoot me an email, and I will send you an invite to join. A new website for the organization will be up and running soon!
I am also in the process of organizing a drum summit to be held at Dizzy’s sometime early next year. This will feature a number of San Diego’s best drummers in various configurations. Stay tuned here, and also check out the Dizzy’s website for info regarding this and other performances.
I am also starting off another semester of drum instruction at Mira Costa College. I have a great group of drummers, and am looking forward to it.
Earlier this year, I recorded with Peter Sprague’s String Consort, and the CD “The Wild Blue” has just been released. This group includes Peter and I, along with Bob Magnusson on bass and a fantastic string quartet. To learn more, go to Peter’s website: Petersprague.com
We have a few performances in the area planned, and I will try to keep you in the loop here.
