In 2000 Jimmy attained the second highest coaching certificate in Australia when he successfully completed The State Licence Course of instruction concerned with coaching and organising practices to improve group skills and tactics of players at Senior level. Pass marks were achieved in all course modules, Methodology of Coaching Principles, Methodology of Practical Coaching and Practical Demonstration. In 2001 he will attend, by invitation only, the highest coaching qualification, The National Licence Course in Canberra. Throughout his playing career he played with a commitment and passion second to none and with the same attitude to coaching it puts the onus on
players to work hard to reach a good skill level. Such passion sits with an understanding that children need to be encouraged to reach good skill levels. Understanding that young players have special needs brings his compassionate nature to the fore and allied with a competitive nature brings out the best in his players. A philosophy of treating all players as individuals helps build confidence and self esteem and encourages players to be their best as players and as young people. Jimmy's coaching methods vary from age to age and individual to individual. Skill levels are accessed early on in the sessions
with players grouped in accordance with skill level. Each player is given targets to reach according to their level of skill so a gradual improvement can be seen in the player as the sessions progress thus building skills, confidence and self esteem where it is lacking. As players progress they are given new skills to work on and given time to improve on these new skills. Working on a variety of skills helps to make players more complete and have a better understanding of the basic principals of the game. Players finding it difficult to learn new skills are given special attention and allowed to progress at their own pace without fear of being excluded from the group. |
