Few laboratory techniques are easier or more useful than making serial dilutions. Basically, serial dilution lets you start with some chemical at full strength, and then quickly create a series of concentrations that ultimately could be as tiny as you like. This method has many uses, but many science fair students will find this technique useful for finding the smallest concentration of a chemical that affects the object of their experiment--for instance, the smallest concentration of some nutrient that affects mold growth, or the smallest concentration of an anti-bacterial agent that kills bacteria.
