Pat in Congress?

What an interesting day in Washington DC!  Pat and Tucker got to visit with Congressman Bilirakis and Congressman Young to discuss some of today’s issues!  Pat interviewed both Congressman to find out what issues they are most interested in as well as to hear what advice they would tell other young people who want to make a difference in the world!  Congressman Young gave the boys a Space Pen made by NASA to be used in space.  It can write anywhere, upside down, in hot and cold conditions and even under water!

Congressman Bilirakis took us on a tour of the White House East Wing as well!  Tucker really liked the East Room which had a painting of George Washington.  The Secret Service agent told us the story of how the British burned down the White House in 1814 and that picture was the only thing saved because Dolly Madison had it carried out just in time!  We left the White House by the front door that you always see in pictures.  Pat thinks that the White House looks much smaller in person than it does on TV!  We were worried the whole time that Tucker would sneak off and set off alarms (he really wanted to go upstairs to the President’s personal area!) but we made it through without incident! Next time we come back Congressman Bilirakis is going to give us a tour of the West Wing!  Tucker wants to sit at the desk of the Oval office!  Look out Secret Service, here he comes!!

Last night we went out to China Town for dinner with our cousin Dorothy (aka Boris) and her husband who is also named Patrick.  Both boys agree that Washington DC is a cool place with so much to see and do.
