Rhett Miller & Murry Hammond
Granada Theater  •  Dallas  •  11-17-07
(a review with video clips by David Welsh)

Every longtime Old 97’s fan has their own favorite concert memories to recount around the campfire late at night.  But for this veteran observer, November 17th will always stand out as a night of singular significance.  The comfortable, smoke-free setting of the Granada Theater was an ideal venue for a show billed as a Rhett Miller solo concert in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (with support from opening act Murry Hammond).

The evening began with a VIP cocktail reception hosted by Rhett himself.  The thirty-or-so diehards who anted up $75 apiece were treated to a buffet, open bar, and a meet-and-greet with Rhett.   In response to questions about the nearly completed Old 97’s release, Rhett described the recording sessions as sounding “more like The Clash” than anything else. Sounds like we can expect a return to the harder-rockin’ sounds of TFTC!

The always-personable Mr. Miller posed for pictures, fielded questions, took requests, and then graced us with an impromptu and intimate performance of three classic songs.

It was akin to having Rhett in your own living room performing just for you and a few friends!
