The Journey of Amilya and David
Amilya Antonetti spent the first years of her son’s life taking him in and out of the emergency room.
Suffocating breathing difficulty, severe rashes and unexplained tantrums continually afflicted baby David but doctors offered only short-term remedies and none could tell her why he was continually suffering. David seemingly got worse and without real answers Amilya at one point was even advised to “let him go”
Terrified but determined Amilya was not willing to give up on her son and without answers from doctors she took it upon herself to find out what was making him so violently sick.
While searching the landscape of alternative, traditional and homeopathic medicine Amilya began keeping a journal of everything she did and with it she revealed that soon after she cleaned her home on Tuesdays, David’s symptoms became critical and shortly they found themselves in the hospital again. This connection made it clear that David was suffering severe allergic reactions to common home cleaning products and other everyday household allergens and that his challenges would only get worse if she didn’t immediately find a smarter way for her family to lead their lives.
She began researching natural products and with the assistance of her grandmother she discovered the recipe to make pure cleaning products. Soon she was the neighborhood soap maker. Her kitchen was her lab and neighbors, friends and family were her test market.
Amilya’s soap was so well received and David’s life so positively changed that she decided she wanted it in stores to give people a smarter choice. But that task was a far greater journey than even she had imagined. Using every dollar she had, she sold her car, closed out savings accounts, turned in CDs’, whatever it was going to take to make her soaps a reality and to compete with some of the largest corporations in the world, in spite of all obstacles.
And compete she did, beginning with the first bar of natural soap handmade in her kitchen to a complete line of household products, Amilya’s SOAPWORKS was born. Through grassroots efforts, mommy groups, consumer activism and sheer force of will, Amilya’s message has received global recognition and her products gained distribution on the shelves at major grocery store chains, supermarkets and specialty stores nationwide.
More than a decade later, Amilya’s SOAPWORKS has changed how the world thinks about cleaning products and the impact they have on the health of our families and earth and Amilya has become a trusted friend for moms and families.
Today, while Amilya stays current on product development, her true devotion is to the moms and families who have looked to her for direction about leading healthier lives. Navigating the maze between today’s family and the overwhelming abundance of consumer products thrust upon us, Amilya is committed to helping families make smarter choices providing; tips, direction, organization and the information they need to take back their power and live healthier and happier lives.
