J. D. Greear recently issued a challenge on his blog for Christians to pray about conquering some of the world’s greatest problems, and doing it in the name of Jesus, to bring Him glory.

He writes, And in whatever field you are, why not dedicate your life to attacking some world giant in Jesus' name? Something people would talk about and give Jesus glory for for CENTURIES to come (if Jesus' doesn't return first!)! Newsweek also put out a GREAT list of the globe's biggest 'crises' right now. It is here. Why not dedicate yourself to slaying one of these giants in Jesus' name? Why not dream a great dream for God?”

I’d like to see someone conquer cancer in the name of Jesus.  My Mom fought cancer twice in her life and won.  By I know many other friends and family members whose bodies succumbed to this dreaded disease.

This year has been a particularly difficult year.  I’ve officiated the funerals of two wonderful young men (Fred and Steve) from our church who had cancer.  I said goodbye to 2 uncles (both 70) who died from cancer.  And then our church’s financial secretary, Isabelle, was the other cancer patient we’ve been praying for this year. She was the success story.  After finishing her chemo treatments a couple of months ago, she was declared cancer-free.

But this week the cancer is back.  She’s in the hospital right now.  As soon as I’m done with lunch, I’m heading up there to see her and pray with her.  Please join me in praying for her.

I’m sick of cancer.  I’m tired of watching friends and family members suffer and die of cancer.  When you’re praying for Isabelle, say another prayer that God will raise up someone to find a cure for this disease.  Pray it will be a Christian who will give the glory to Jesus, Who is our ultimate Healer.

Conquering Cancer
