Martin Dove: welcome page

Welcome ...
You have reached my personal web site. This is (or will become) a collection of bits of information, some ramblings, and some pictures. Hopefully some of this will be useful to someone.
Some background information
In case you arrived here with no idea of who I am, briefly let me tell you that I live in Cambridge UK, happily married and with three daughters (were it not for the sad risk of identify fraud I would tell you rather more about my family). My day job is as a professor at the University of Cambridge, and spend my time variously partitioned between science, management, and teaching & training. My science interest is to understand the behaviour and properties of matter using a mixture of computer simulation and neutron scattering methods. Increasingly I am drawn into the world of informatics, albeit without being able to do anything like as much hands-on work as I would like.
My remaining time and interests are shared across work in our local church (my wife and I run a Sunday School and I sit on the church council), playing guitar (sadly without really having enough time), learning to play drums (enormous fun, and fulfillment of a dream of all too long ago), history and historic buildings, and having fun with computers (only Apple that is).
So what will you find here?
My plan with this web site is to document various thoughts and experiences. Some of these may be interesting to some people, and some may even be useful! Some of these parts will be in a blog format, although I won’t be aiming to treat them as blogs in the usual sense.
Anywhere else to go?
