I Will Build My Church!” -Jesus

Solid Rock Community Church is headquartered in Jericho, East of Nairobi, with outreaches in the Kiambio Slums of Nairobi and Mfangano Island, situated in Lake Victoria (Western Kenya).

Solid Rock Community Church was founded in 1996 with five people meeting upstairs at a small city hotel.  In 2002 the church moved to a suburb –Uhuru Estate in the East of Nairobi- with the vision of being a ‘soul-saving station’ to touch the lives of people in the surrounding community.

God provided a miracle for Solid Rock when the city council gave a plot of land to the church, believing that the community of Jericho needed the Godly influence of a man like Pastor Mickey Okeyo.  The church raised funds to build a small worship center on the new property, but thugs and thieves in the community tore down the building and stole the materials after the church had met for only a few weeks.  Solid Rock was forced back into rented facilities again.

With funds from a ministry in the USA in January 2005, the people of Solid Rock gladly put their hands to the plow and began construction again on a worship center.  Again, the building was torn down.  Struggling to recover from this devastation, only a handful of faithful remained as the church met for worship under the hot sun in the midst of the crumpled ruins of twisted steel and wood that was once a worship facility.

In October of 2005, Solid Rock Community Church re-launched with the “40 Days of Purpose” campaign, focusing its ministry efforts in the community on Worship, Fellowship, Discipleship, Ministry and Evangelism.  During this campaign, the church began small groups, a children’s ministry, a community outreach program and a worship team.  By the end of the “40 Days of Purpose” Solid Rock had purchased a tent to meet in and had grown from 20 to almost 75 in attendance.  Amazingly, some of the very same men who were once responsible for tearing down Solid Rock’s building had found new faith in Christ... and were coming early every Sunday morning to set up the church’s new tent!

As Solid Rock continues to grow, impacting not only Jericho, but also Kiambio and Mfanagano Island, it does so with greater faith than ever that Christ will fulfill His promise- “I will build my church, and the gates of Hell will not prevail against it!”
