NEW The adventures of Otokichi, Kyukichi, and Iwakichi (refer to Kairei in my list of Miura Novels) are currently being performed on stage in several cities around the world. The Otokichi Association (Otokichi no Kai), which is behind this project, has published an English language version of their booklet titled “Global Drifters: the Lives of Japanese Sailors Forbidden to Return Home.” The booklet can be ordered through their (Japanese) website at http://www.otokichi.net


Spirit Matters: The Transcendent in Modern Japanese Literature by Philip Gabriel (The head of the Department of East Asian Studies at the Univ. of Arizona analyzes some of the most influential works of contemporary Japanese literature, including three novels by Miura Ayako.)
