Field Trip

This year’s field trip will be to the Solite Quarry, a late Triassic lacustrine deposit on the Virginia-North Carolina state line. The Solite Quarry is one of the world’s most productive Triassic insect localities, and has also produced numerous plants, trace fossils, and fishes. It is the type locality for the aquatic protorosaur Tanytrachelos and the gliding archosauromorph Mecistotrachelos.
