The World of Braxton

As a professor of religious studies at a small liberal arts college nestled in the mountains of rural Pennsylvania, my life is governed by three domains.

First, I am the father of three teenagers and the life partner of Sarah, my spouse of more than 20 years.  Our home is the site of near constant activity where we have dogs, a cat, a couple of rabbits, and some pheasants.  We maintain extensive gardens which fill many of our free hours in the evenings and weekends.

Second, my work at Juniata College focuses on religion and science and the application of tools of digital media and information technology to the academic study of religion.  Many of my efforts in his field you will find dispersed among the various pages of this site beyond this welcome page.  I encourage you to explore them and contact me with your thoughts and ideas.

Third, I am deeply connected to the landscape that surrounds our home.  I can walk out my front door and see the hospital across the valley where I was born.  My best memories as a child are of the ridges and valleys around Huntingdon.  I am possessed of a kind of insane loyalty and bonding to the soil, plants and animals typical of this part of Pennsylvania.
The above pictures (from left to right) are of me in Machu Picchu in 2004, my favorite local stream, our strawberry patch in May with enlightened face looking on, and a chimp at the Museum of Natural History in New York.
