Two brothers half a world apart are coming together to run for humanity.  M. Sridhar  Reddy and M. Jayanth Reddy are planning a 500+ kilometer distance run on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus during September 2008.  With your support they hope to raise awareness about the importance of physical fitness and the global health crisis of AIDS.

M. Sridhar writes:   “We, two brothers,  Indian and  US citizens, are  planning this run on Cyprus to promote  HIV/AIDS awareness, especially the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS. Forty million people are infected with  HIV/AIDS in the world, which makes it the most serious health-related catastrophe of modern times.

Ninety percent of the 2.3 million HIV-positive children living around the world contracted HIV from their mothers in the womb, 1,500 children contract HIV every day.  This is simply unacceptable. As a global community, we must do more to help HIV-positive AIDS victims.”

The quest to raise awareness about AIDS  by distance running is a long standing one for M. Sridihar.   See below in the website his press coverage from previous long distance runs.  For this new endeavor Sridhar will be joined by his brother M. Jayanth who is currently writing a book on importance of physical fitness.  M. Jayanth writes about his quest to raise awareness:

“The human body is a miniature universe in itself.  Humans must use their bodies actively and in order to sustain a high quality of life and living.   Food alone will not accomplish this.   I want to raise awareness about the importance of understanding the human body and how it functions.   Mere intellectual understanding of scholars and scientists is only part of the wholeness of living life.   An understanding of the body and its functions and needs is essential to a longer, healthier and more productive life.   I want to help people around the world blast through to total body fitness and longer, healthier lives.”

M. Sridhar and M. Jayanth are experts at generating publicity although neither of them self-describe as “stars”.   They are ordinary citizens of the world willing to step outside their routines of work and family to help focus awareness on issues greater than their personal well-being and comfort.   In this effort they are seeking your support for their Cyprus run.   You can help defray these expenses by making a cash contribution though the paypal link below or by writing directly via email to Sridhar about other ways you may be able to support this endeavor.   Additional connections or suggestions for publicizing this event are most welcome.
