From early 2005 into early 2008 I participated in the STS or Science & Technology Studies (English) master program at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and earned my MSc degree.
STS is “the study of how social, political, and cultural values affect scientific research and technological innovation, and how these in turn affect society, politics, and culture.”
What started out in the 1960s as Science Studies grew into Social Studies of Science. The same principles were then applied to Technology resulting in the field of Science & Technology Studies. It is also referred to as STIS to express the growing importance of Innovation studies within the field.
This website is a good starting point on the subject. The main professional society in the STS community is 4S and the European counterpart is EASST.
