What Does That Number Represent?
It represents the number of opportunities we have each day to choose what we think, what we say or what we do. It is the mathematical result of 60 seconds x 60 minutes x 24 hours each day.
If we think of each day as a gift from our creator - a gift that we can only use that day, that like money, we could spend on anything we choose, but unlike money, it can’t be saved for tomorrow, because we have no guarantee of tomorrow. We only have this gift to spend today.
So, what do we choose? Well, we know we need to spend some of it sleeping and resting our body and mind for hopeful days ahead, so we should probably set aside about a third of those moments for sleep and rest. But that leaves us with over 50,000 choices for each day - no wonder we need to rest!
We urge you to make thoughtful choices about what you invest your time in today - and we offer this thought about the gift of 86,400:
86,400
This is the beginning of a new day.
The Creator and divine providence have given me this day to use as I choose.
I can waste it or use it for good.
What I do today is important because
I am trading a day of my life for it.
When today ends, it will be gone forever,
leaving something I have chosen.
I want it to be gain - not loss,
good – not evil, success – not failure,
in order that I shall not regret the price I have paid for it.
Today, each choice I make with heart and mind will guide my path to my destiny, which waits nearby.
This destiny will truly be my own,
because I have traded my life for it,
86,400 moments
and one day at a time.
