Approximately 300,000 children are used as soldiers in the world.  In the Democratic Republic of Congo, only 35% of school age children go to school.  While these are statistics author Charles London states and writes about, he goes beyond the statistics and travels to 3 continents and 8 countries impacted by war to have personal conversations (and soccer games and art projects) to gain tremendous insight into the lives of children of war.
