Bio
Diane McGrath was born and brought up in the Maritimes surrounded by nature. Graduated from Sheridan College with a certificate in illustration and is an OCA Graduate specializing in New media. Diane traveled to Florence Italy to complete her independent thesis in painting. She spent time working in a special effects company creating animatronics creatures. Then moved on to painting murals for many years. Diane also spent 10 years as an aerialist performing and doing choreography. Diane’s passion is a love for light, colour and movement. Her subject matter is influenced by her passion for the force of movement inherent in nature, extreme weather and her experience with gravity, action and flow of being a circus performer and aerialist.

Artist Statement:

In between one position and the next. The place that moves so fast you miss it, catching that moment. My subject matter is the energy within that. Influenced by the force of nature.

I have a strong interest in moving structures and how things work and what makes them weak: whether it is the human anatomy, architecture, bridges or the planet itself. I see geometry and perspective in the forms and shapes created by a certain kind of movement.

Murals:

Diane McGrath is an accomplished artist with years of experience, developing and producing a wide variety of projects, including many fine hotels, casinos, restaurants, historic buildings, exclusive residences, and film and theatre sets.

Diane takes a creative problem solver approach and goes to great lengths to come up with innovative solutions and new ideas incorporating a wide range of artistic approaches and techniques from abstract to trompe l’oeil, a french term meaning “trick of the eye”.

Trompe l’oeil is a historical mural painting technique used for centuries throughout Europe incorporating realism, accurate perspective, and shading to create three dimensional illusions.

Following years of experience Diane stresses that the most successful artistic projects marry painted architectural concepts with the existing architectural components, therefore she prefers projects offering the maximum amount of artistic control.

Clients are given the option to have the project produced in Diane McGrath’ s Studio on canvas or on site.
Artistic concepts and projects are custom designed to reflect the clients special needs stylistically and practically.
