The Choruses of the
Visual & Performing Arts Academy
at Salem High School
Virginia Beach, VA
“Inspiration ~ Vision ~ Creation ~ Realization”

Don Krudop, Doctor of Musical Arts
Director of Choral Music Education
Music Department Lead Teacher

Greetings and welcome to our webpage. The choruses of the Visual & Performing Arts Academy at Salem High School are quickly gaining recognition as being among the finest in the Commonwealth of Virginia. They have sung in prestigious locations and events (including the Riverside Church in New York and the “Disney Honors” festival in Orlando, Florida), have performed at the Virginia Music Educators Association (VMEA) annual state conference, and received many awards for their choral excellence.

The choral music program at the Visual & Performing Arts Academy emphasizes the ideal of 'total musicianship' where students are introduced to concepts in music theory, music history, performance practice, concert decorum, and the importance of music in our society. Students are expected to acquire an understanding of the cultural significance of music world-wide, to understand the basics of reading and writing music, to employ proper vocal technique, to master the ability to sight-sing, and, most of all, to develop a heart-felt passion that will allow them to enjoy a lifelong love of music. The motto of all the choruses at Salem & the Academy is "Quality, Class, & Pride." We believe in:
--> the production and presentation of QUALITY repertoire,
--> the CLASS with which to recognize excellence in others and,
--> PRIDE in our own musical accomplishments, both individual and in ensembles.

Vox Harmonia and Academy Choral Ensemble are available for performances throughout the year.
