Fully Clothed: Maui Taylor
It was easy to ask her to take her clothes off and strip for our cameras. Very easy. And we were almost tempted. But then again, that’s how you almost always see her in pictures. So, we decided not to go through the same “well beaten path.” Instead, we zipped her up. Tight and good. And wonders of wonders, the photograph still works. In a different way, we must admit, but it does work.

PHOTOGRAPHY BY RENZO SEN
How do you showcase the finest assets of a sexy star when she is fully clothed? Or tightly and conservatively wrapped, for that matter? That was the question we were grappling with during the recent shoot with Maui Taylor.
We could easily manage a portrait with a typical celebrity, but Maui Taylor is not a “typical celebrity.” She is known not only for her beauty and body, but very surprisingly, also now for her brains. We discovered her inherent wit and staple intelligence not from any of the televisions shows and movies she has starred in, but in a morning radio talk show where she, for quite sometime, traded sharp words with loud-mouthed, and often insensitive (but most definitely controversial), Mo Twister.
So, what to do in a clothed shoot? Focus on something. Anything. It so happen that there was something we could focus on. Her eyes. Bright, wide and open, her eyes became the focal point of a simple and direct portrait session that, in the case of Maui Taylor, was quite unlike any other.
In this outtake, we succeed in making sure that her eyes “talks” to you. We feel that it is the redeeming value in a portrait that does not ask her to take her clothes off. We need not bare her beautiful body because, through her eyes, we bared her exquisite soul. And that is more than enough.
