Dominique James is one of today’s finest professional photographers based in Manila, Philippines. He is a Nikon Pro Photographer and an Epson Stylus Pro Photographer. He is also an Apple Certified Professional and an Apple Certified Trainer for Aperture.
In the span of more than 15 years, he has photographed almost all celebrities and fashion models as well as some of the most popular politicians from Manila, Philippines.
Among them includes: Gary Valenciano, Loren Legarda, Martin Nievera, Imee Marcos, Kris Aquino, Robin Padilla, Mikey Arroyo, Pops Fernandez, Dina Bonnevie, Joyce Jimenez, Diether Ocampo, Judy Ann Santos, Piolo Pascual, Lorna Toletino, Rudy Fernandez, Donita Rose, Jackie Lou Blanco, Ricky Reyes, Ruffa Guttierez, Hilda Coronel, Borgy Manotoc, Gloria Romero, etc.
He has photographed almost all of the major basketball players for the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP), the National College Athletics Association (NCAA), and all members of the official Philippine RP basketball team as well as the biggest names in Philippine sports like Manny Pacquiao, Elma Muros, among others.
His photographs, as editorial features or in print ads, has appeared on the cover or inside pages of newspapers and magazines: Philippine Daily Inquirer, Philippine Star, Manila Bulletin, Mega, FHM, Preview, Star Studio, Metro, Yes, People, Cosmopolitan, S Magazine, Woman Today, Women's Journal, Mr & Ms Magazine, Women's Home Companion, Mod, Dream Weddings, Bride Philippines, Celebrity Living, Colors (International), etc.
He has photographed multi-awarded singers and musicians for concert posters and for the cover of some of the best-selling albums of all times for Universal Records, MCA Universal, Viva Records, GMA Records, BMG Pilipinas, Star Records, Galaxy Records, among others.
His photographs have also been featured as poster, VCD and DVD covers of movies produced by Regal Films, Seiko Films, Viva Films, Star Cinema, etc.
He has done fashion photographs for top Filipino designers such as Inno Sotto, Rajo Laurel, Barge Ramos, Frederick Peralta, Eddie Baddeo, Gerry Katigbak, Avel Bacudio, as well as photographed the branded collections of Hugo Boss, Georgio Armani, Benetton and Versace, among others.
His commercial, advertising and corporate clients include: Avon, Wella, Epson, Kimberly Clarke, Apple, Johnson & Johnson, Samsung, Philamlife, Beer na Beer, Swatch, Dolce et Gabanna, Mercedes Benz, Smart, Globe, SM Shoemart, San Beda College, etc.
To date, he has already presented 50 one-man and group photography exhibits (Beauty, Body Politics, The Botanical Sessions, Flowers Forever, Shoes, Famous, etc.) held at various venues such as The Vargas Museum at the University of the Philippines, The Alcove Gallery of the Filipinas Heritage Library, The Main Lobby of Philamlife in United Nations, among others. One of his most recent and widely publicized photography shows is for Avon's breast cancer awareness campaign entitled “Kiss Breast Cancer Goodbye” at the Shangri-La EDSA mall. More new and exciting solo photo exhibits are being planned in the years to come.
He developed and teaches a number of popular photographic modeling courses and workshops exclusively for John Robert Powers International (JRP) and at the Philippine Center For Creative Imaging (PCCI), and regularly conducts lectures, workshops and seminars, as well as gives talks and judges the photo contests of camera clubs, schools, companies and associations such as Kodak, Camera Club of the Philippines, College of St. Benilde, De La Salle University, Saint Paul’s College, Letran, BPI Camera Club, Nayon Photographers Club, Zone V, CalCarrie, etc. Recently, he has been invited to conduct seminars, lectures, workshops and talks to photographers in Asia. His most recent trips include Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Singapore, and Hongkong.
He is also regularly invited to serve as a judge for and as a consultant to models searches, beauty tilts and talent competitions (e.g. Ford Supermodel, Bodyshots, Manhunt, etc.).
While he is known for his celebrity photographs, his favorite subjects include: still life, nude, sunsets and architecture. He is also interested in close-up photography.
After earning an A.B. Economics degree from San Beda College, he started out as a writer, columnist then editor, and engaged in facets of media work.
While his interest in photography started in grade school, and while he studied photography in high school under Shirlee Mercado, it was only during the early part of his professional career, through his association with some of the country's best photographers and several influential industry insiders, that his interest and passion was rekindled, prompting him to shift career as a professional photographer.
He basically learned photography through self-study and by associating, apprenticing and assisting with professional photographers for more than five years. He also formally studied photography for more than three years in the United States.
