Nashville Cohort with Will Samson
Thursday, November 8, 2007

Will came down to the Nashville Cohort to share some ideas about living justly from his book Justice in the Burbs. The audio is a little busy because our group got bumped from our regular spot in the pool room (you’re going down Robert Ott -  whoever you are!) and ended up in a more public area

My Take on Youth Ministry
Friday, November 2, 2007

This is a conversation between my friend Steve and I for his youth ministry class at Belmont. We talk about how I got into all this, some of the metaphors we’re working from in practicing our more “missional” type of youth ministry and what advise I’d give to his class.

If you want to listen to

David Dark @ the Nashville Cohort
Thursday, September 6, 2007

The Nashville Cohort welcomed author David dark for what turned out to be a great conversation. There is a particularly good section how Christians should approach things like the pledge of allegiance. Good stuff.

The recording source moves around a bit a first so bear with it.

The Death Penalty
Tuesday, August 14, 2007

A few months ago a friend of mine from one of the local universities interviewed me for her social psychology class. She was conducting a study comparing religious attitudes and the death penalty. If you’re interested in such things have a listen and imagine how you might answer her questions. Or

Liturgy, Ritual and Missional Living (Nashville Cohort)

A presentation that I did for the cohort I coordinate here in Nashville. The conversation was really good and goofy (because we are both). Enjoy.

Reimagining Short Term Missions Pt. 2
Sunday, May 6, 2007

Here is part 2 of a presentation I did for youth ministers in the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina about a Missional approach to Short Term Missions. It builds on the material from the blog posts in ‘05. This was also the first time I had ever run my Short Term Missions “smack” in seminar

7 Last Words Part 2
Friday, April 6, 2007

I did back to back meditations during our “7 Last Words” Good Friday Liturgy. This is the second one from Matthew 27:32-49. If you enjoy listening to me fitting a lot of material into a short time slot and being social subversive in the process then you’ll love it:)

Youth Ministry and Narrative Theology
Wednesday, January 31, 2007

Here is another seminar I did at the Emergent Mainline/s conference last week in Decatur. This one is with Tony Jones and we had a good time. I had put together a slide show that Tony had not seen before we started so the “flying by the seat your pants” vibe of the conversation was well earned.

Liturgical Feng Shui: The Liturgy and Missional Living pt 1
Wednesday, January 31, 2007

Last week Holly Rankin Zaher (my theological partner in crime) and I did a seminar during the Emergent Mainline/s event at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA. The material is stuff we have been working on for a book so it was fun to “see how it played live”. I talk too much, but what

The Jesus Prayer Seminar at Youth Quake 2007
Saturday, January 13, 2007

This is a speaking engagement I did for a youth ministry event called YouthQuake. It’s me teaching a bunch of kids the Jesus Prayer in this big auditorium (see photo). There is a small gap in the audio where we actually practice the prayer.  It’s a little abrupt but it shouldn’t throw you.

Enjoy.

Thoughts about Worship Music pt. 1
Wednesday, October 18, 2006

One of my friends, Monique Ingalls, is an ethnographer and is doing her PhD in, get this, the ethnography of “worship music”. She and her husband are living in Nashville for two years while she does her research here in the lions den. We sat down and she interviewed me as part of her research
