Maunday Thursday Sermon

I preached this sermon on a day called Maunday Thursday, which in my tradition is the day in Holy Week celebrating two things: Jesus washing the disciples feet and giving the “new” commandment. (Maundy coming from the Latin meaning commandment).

The Gospel reading was John 13:1-17. Here I tie it into some of my Liturgy, doing rituals for the benefit of others smack.

This is a session I did for a friend of mine for her churches Lenten series. They are going through the Baptismal Creed and I was asked to present on the question, “Will you Proclaim the Good News of Jesus by Word and Example?”

So, this is my (and others - I steal good stuff) “Doing your beliefs” stuff.
Lot’s of talk about the question “what is the gospel” and how does one live into the answer to that question.

Youth Ministry Systems pt 1

This is a lecture I did for a Youth Ministry Class at my seminary. It deals with emergence systems thinking and how it relates to Youth Ministry. We talk about two books the class had to read, E Myth: Revisited and The Starfish and the Spider.

Nashville Cohort with Will Samson

Will came down to the Nashville Cohort to share some ideas about living justly from his book Justice in the Burbs. The audio is a little busy because our group got bumped from our regular spot in the pool room (you’re going down Robert Ott - whoever you are!) and ended up in a more public area called the garden. So, when you hear references to Huey Lewis and News or acknowledgments of people passing through our conversation you’ll know why. Enjoy.

The Death Penalty

A few months ago a friend of mine from one of the local universities interviewed me for her social psychology class. She was conducting a study comparing religious attitudes and the death penalty. If you’re interested in such things have a listen and imagine how you might answer her questions. Or you can just sit and listen to me blather on like I know so much about all these things;)

Here is part 2 of a presentation I did for youth ministers in the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina about a Missional approach to Short Term Missions. It builds on the material from the blog posts in ‘05. This was also the first time I had ever run my Short Term Missions “smack” in seminar format and I was pleased with the conversation.
