“Banksy and sandy andy teamed up to create this underground beach play area in the sand. Transient art in the streets of Waterloo. This was Andrew’s first exhibition and he went down very well. The sofa looked so real”

“I knew about the Banksy Cans festival over the bank holiday weekend but was to busy to go and see it. I never dreamt there would be any sand there and TG had a big birthday party so the art world had to go on hold for a few days. Then on Sunday evening when getting ready for some well deserved sleep, curiosity got the better of me. While flicking through some pictures of street art on flickr and I saw the Banksy installation. One picture showed his noddy car sitting on some sand in a children's play area and I thought I have to do something with that. The bank holiday monday was the last day of the exhibition so instead of going to bed I got on my motorbike and shot over to Waterloo. It was at about 2:30am when I got there and the space was wonderful. The art was amazing. There was a couple of security guys walking about and five or six other guys doing some stenciling. There were beer cans everywhere, empty spray cans and the air smelt of weed mixed with paint solvent. By the time they opened to the public the air was clear and my work was ready. I’d bastardized Banksy’s installation of a kids play area and built myself a living room in the middle. On the sand TV was a display of foreign coins I’ve been collecting for the last few years while busking on the beach. The sand there was awful to work with, horrible gritty builders sand. Not fine enough to get any real detail and it sent my skin orange, but it was fine enough to make a sofa and TV. By the end of the day I had made a hand coming out of the television screen with a spray can and a new born baby on the floor surrounded by rats and a lizard. I did want to make more but there just wasn’t enough sand. I had intended to stay past midnight so I could do some filming without the noise of the public mooching about. Maybe even film a live version of my song on the piano that was there but the weekends lack of sleep had got the better of me, so by 11:30pm I was home and ready to die - ‘twas a fun weekend.”
“Bastardize a Banksy just to make a sculpture.
Taking on the street art and graffiti culture ”
