What is this:
CreateDiskImage is an Applescript droplet that lets you easily create highly compressed disk images without the need to go through Apples Disk Utility application, by using „Drag & Drop“. Simply drop any folder or file to this Applescript droplet, and it will create a compressed disk image which contains the dropped file or the contents of the dropped folder.

Main Purpose:
Compressed disk images are the main distribution scheme on the Mac OS X platform, as recommended by Apple, so it gets ever more convenient for Mac OS X users to handle such disk image files, instead of PKZip archives as created by Finder’s „Create Archive of ...“ functionality.

How does it work:
You can drop more than one file at once onto the CreateDiskImage Applescript droplet, it will create one compressed disk image per dropped file/folder [see screenshot].

A disk image created out of a dropped folder will contain the contents of that folder, a disk image created out of a dropped file will contain that file. The created disk image is placed next to the file/folder which was dropped onto the CreateDiskImage Applescript droplet.

In case a disk image file of the same name does already exist in the specific location, a dialogue will require a decision whether or not to overwrite the existing file [see screenshot].

Features:
• Easily creates compressed disk images from dropped files and folders
• Supports drag & drop of multiple files
• Uses highest compression rate, as opposed to Apple’s Disk Utility which uses medium compression rate
• When finished, a dialogue tells whether the creation process was successful

Restrictions:
• No progress dialogue is shown during the disk image creation process
• To create a disk image out of a dropped file, that file will be copied to a temporary location first (i.e.: „$HOME/.tmp/“)

System Requirements:
• PowerPC based or Intel based Apple Macintosh Computer
• Mac OS X 10.3 (or higher)

Version History:
• 1.0 (2007-01-20): Initial release
