Very Special Effects

LiquidLogixx, in Texas, did a fantastic job in

re-creating this CG truck since the real truck didn’t run and never left it’s assigned parking space at a Scottish apartment -- where it still rests today. Josh Hurst and his team took our still images of the truck and applied them to the custom 3D model they made.

Greg Sullivan built this plane from the ground up. It is a highly detailed model - right down to the rivets - with all moving parts . In this shot Rick Cortez created the environment. There is over a month of work on this plane and it is on screen for less than a minute.

Believe it or not this shot is all 2D. Josh Edwards shot a photo of his local University then Jonathan Lawrence added all the other photo elements, including the car, to the shot.

He made the leaves in Photoshop and added the actors, who were shot on a greenscreen. The camera motion was done in After Effects.

Rick Cortez constructed the first portion of this shot from still images and then seamlessly combined them with a static shot of Indy in the crate. The crate was hand rotoscoped from it’s original position and animated up the 2D crevasse. The shot ends with the crate in its original  position -- The concept for this shot was all Rick’s idea.

MORE TO COME

This miniature can be used or a CG truck can be created for the shot. I have High Resolution stills of All views of the actual Picture Truck.

This animatic is basically the shot. The truck comes (add) thru the gate and turns Camera Left. We Crane over to see the Truck pull around the front and park facing Rosslyn. (I would love to see subtle imperfections in the move and a crow perched on one of the steeples with wing movement.)

This shot is HDV / Bluescreen outside the window to be replaced with Passengers POV of Rosslynn. The live action is a Dollie shot that moves up to the Windshield (Full Frame) The shot must be Flopped to put the driver on the Euro side of the truck.

The 1st  Element is DV (Locked-off) Needs a Matte created to lose everything but the Truck and actors (who remain inside the truck lines except for the ground)

The 2nd Element are individually shot actors on Green (DV wide,  shot 90* for Higher Resolution)

The 3rd Element is a Rosslyn image - either photo or CG (add sky background.)

Very similar to the above shot except it is CLOSER , Straight on, and there is only one actor. Mild Dust rising from the top of Rosslyn needs to be added as though there had just been a earthquake. Perhaps a small bit of debris dropping from the front wall.

SHOT 5

Also similar to the above shots. This is a POV and can have a slight Handheld feel The grounds have just SHAKEN - A piece of the wall cracks loose a high part of the chapel, hitting some extruding  part then lands on the dirt. Dust is just beginning to rise from behind the chapel.

EVERYTHING IN THIS DARK GREEN SECTION IS AN EXACT COPY OF WHAT WAS SENT TO LIQUDLOGIXX EFFECTS COMPANY -

THESE ARE NOT THE FINISHED SHOTS!!! THEY ARE HIGH-END ANIMATICS TO GIVE A ROUGH IDEA OF WHAT WE WANTED. WE WILL POST SELECTED SHOTS WHEN THEY ARE COMPLETED.

Since our story takes place in 1926 it was a constant challenge to keep all modern references out of the frame. In this particular scene you cant go wrong with the real Paris as your location. A freezing early morning shoot at Notre’ Dame kept most pedestrian traffic indoors but that wasn't enough -- As in much of the movie, we needed to add dramatic skies and in this case Industrial elements as well as period cars.
